monday 30th november (christmas soon)
as always we have our enterprise lecture with Bridget, and i do like to take lots of notes. but i found this lesson a little dull as the first part was new and use full to know, but the second part which lasted at least 45 minutes was a catch-up for the last 5 sessions. which to be honest is a bit of an insult for those that have attended and then had to sit thought it again. my enterprise group which are creating the swapsie daisy clothing web-site have a presentation on Monday the seventh. so during this week we will be working out business strategies and ideas about swot and pest from our enterprise lectures. obviously i will also be continuing to do work for the tailoring module.
monday 23rd november
my session schedule tells me i should be doing piping this Wednesdays, and considering that in my last module my group and i will have done more piping than most tailors and fashion students would have done in their entire lives, I'm not sure its totally necessary for me to listen but Hugo has promised me he will show me something new.
and as always hugo is telling the truth, it was intesrting, i enjoyed it, piping is not just annoying. we were looking at pulling piping, making it thick, layering piping and lots of other things. so surprisingly i have enjoyed it!
thursday was padding, now i cant wuite get the hang of this, im ok with the sticthing, but, mine seems to curl too much, its used a a revere for a lapel on a mans jacket, so i will have to do that again in my own time. throught these workshop sessions, we are designing from our samples, and it is going ok.
friday 'MISSING----ONE HUGO' if found please retrurn to LCAD.
today is our workshop on shoulder paddings and how to make a a basic half jacket. charlotte and i were especially early today... uni is very quiet at 8-15. being early meant angie shoved us in the first making session with andrew that was supposed to be with hugo. i was very impressed that after we had the session with andrew without too much difficulty i was able to make my half jacket sample. it went well!
monday 16th novemeber
critical studies...morning, evening
so after my trip to London, i thought i had got loads of really good shop report research- turns out, maybe not. so having picked up the brief last week, i needed to go over and re-do some bits and pieces ready for this Wednesday. as Angie wanted to see what we had been doing during our independent study time. having seen Angie on the Wednesday, i was doing things the way she wanted them in first year slightly more artistic, this year Angie wanted us to concentrate on flats, design details, fastening and imagine how the garments were put together, and what the difference was between the market levels; so i would have to go back and add more.

on Thursday we visited the west Yorkshire play house, it was really interesting. being able to see all the different style, shaped collars cuffs and tailoring details really sparked some ideas as to what i could be producing. but on the other hand i managed to leave my sketch book at the play house so will have to go and pick that up another day.
Friday began with an introduction do designing from samples. so we were learning how to design a garment or part of a garment involving button holes and all the different interesting things that can be done with button holes. during the afternoon we were deconstructing a jacket. I had picked up a woman's jacket and this was no way near as interesting as a mans jacket. during the lesson we were drawing details about the jackets and Angie was right, by making us draw the jackets and not just take pictures of them; we all actually paid more attention to the detail and have a better understanding of how a jackets is put together from it.

2nd novemeber

this is one of the pages from my look book..... this is the skirt i made in flat.
i was reasonably happy with the work i produced over the last month, and i found that i had completed a lot that i thought i wouldn't be able too. i was not happy with the presentation, i really do not enjoy public speaking, i do not mind performing in pantomimes or any of that stuff, but as soon as we had to stand up and perform the presentation, i needed to read off my Que cards which i hadn't needed before and this ruined most of my section of the presentation.
on the Tuesday before we had the presentation, we had critical studies. it was unsurprising that most the of the people on the course did not turn up. i on the other hand went, i collected my brief from tom palin my new lecturer and i rather enjoyed the lecture. it was only an hour, and I'm looking forward to my next lecture.
after i have done all this..... in the last month i feel shattered. i really do not want to be working again like this-

26th october reading week...elective millinery
my research immediately lead me to Stephen Jones, christian Dior and some of the most fascinating buildings ever made such as the new creations in Dubai, and the Eiffel tower. i decided after looking at some very weird German building to create my hat/fascinator out of sinamay. it would be a series of cubes held together somehow on sinamay base. these be built up and would have something inside them to show movement when the wearer moved there head or walked.
during the entire elective which had to be handed on November the 12Th i felt permanently distracted by the short time we had left on the application of design brief.
due to the shirt time we have to complete this brief, im quite impressed by what i managed to get done. howevere i will still need to do some more things to my hat...and my research before i hand it in.
19th october application of design

this is a link to the video that we made........
12th october
anyway. the enterprise lecture was all about pest
- politics
- economics
- society
- technology
and how this all had to be taken very seriously when thinking about where, when and how your setting your business up!
on the whole this was very helpfull as we have our 'creating our business' thing to think about and all this will be helpfull.
for application of design this week we needed to make our garment, this was difficult. i had my flats and i knew what i was going to be making....my skirt.
the difficult part was making the pattern, as i wanted to create a skirt with curved seams i had to take this into consideration when pattern cutting i also had to think about where i would put the zip.....preferably out of sight for this market level and how it would all fit together to hide seams and piping. i made the pattern on Wednesday and i had made the toil bu Thursday afternoon but by trying to hide a side seam i had to completely change part of the pattern and i also had to take into consideration vents. this would allow the wearer to walk in the skirt because it was fitted down the the knees. the fabric i chose was also quite hard to work in and getting the pattern pieces cut right was very difficult. by Friday afternoon when we were supposed to have had our entire garment finished i had some new pattern pieces, after the first skirt bodged. my plan was to stay late all next week in my own time and finish it.
5th october application of design.
- adele would complete the tailoring aspect of the collection
- vicky wallace would do casual day wear
- claire would do evening wear
- zaianab would do young and edgy
- and we were unaware as to what jess would do as she was not in.
straight away we decided what we would all be making as we needed to have a collection of 6 garments to create a group line-up. claire dress, zaianab long top, jess jacket, adele trousers, myself a skirt and vicky a jumper/coat.
as a group we were to create flat drawings for our collection and we needed them for next week as we were beginning to make the garments we had not even finished designing yet.
on Thursday we had a group meeting with Angie to discuss what we would be making, we were also talking about fabric and colour choice as this is very important to our collection. after our group meeting, we went to Dewsbury and the market and other fabric stores to see if we could find the fabrics that were missing from our range. we managed to find some very exciting fabrics. with our chosen fabrics picked we were able to finalise what we would be making with angie the next day and our design details that would be suitable. as a team we decided to have satin piping as a design feature.
this work was really beginning to get on top of me already. although i felt i had stayed up to date and we were not as behind as other groups, it was still asking alot that by next Friday we would have our garments made. on the Friday we had a talk about look books, this confused everyone slightly i think. we all know we have a lot to do, so i think it may just be a case of getting on with it, and making the most of college time
these area few design sheets i had done....

beginning our project 28th september

summer work 09
- we have to do 4 research pages
- a mood board based on the information we were given
- start a fabric file
- and produce brand research on a designer diffusion level
over the summer i have complete the brand research, i chose to look into see by Chloe, roksanda ilincic's new range for whistles and bcbg, i also looked at Stella Mc Cartney so i could compare the difference. along side my brand research was the designer research on miu miu, i really enjoyed looking into miu miu as its a brand i like for its playful clothing!
the fabric research file was quite difficult to compile and i had to wait until i had time to travel to fabric shops so i could get a wide range of fabrics. i don't know very much about the fabrics so I'm guessing i will have to look into it more.
i don't think the research i completed was as good as the research i was doing all of last year, certain aspects of my work lacked creativity. this is one of my summer research pages
i was more focused on the research aspect of our summer work.

monday 25th week 37

monday 18th may 09
monday 11th may 09 week 35

Tuesday, bad day, well good day depending on how you look at it, a voluntary crit has lead me to believe that i need to basically start again with some design ideas and shapes. so all the design sheets i have done basically needs scraping, but its good as there is no point handing in work that i know isn't up to scratch. right, Wednesday, start again. so my mission today was to make a few more designs, that fitted in with what i had been told yesterday. i have decided moulage is the way forward so i will be doing that. Thursday was good helping the 3rd years it proves what you can learn! i have decided i definitely need to do so much more practical work, maybe make a could of bits and pieces over summer just to remember what we have been doing!
