elective week mon 16th- fri 20th MILLINERY

millinery elective week, ill be honest i have not done the research. i was busy doing the creative design practice and then the fashion art and culture. but now i have the week to concentrate on it so i may as well try and get a half decent grade in it. first day has gone pretty well, we are being shown how to pull felt to make the hat and it seems quite hard physically but mentally quite easy so i shouldn't have a problem! and achievement of the day making a mood board on photo shop without having a breakdown at my lack of computer skills!!!

Tuesday was fun, Kate and i went to the shop to buy bits and pieces to decorate out hats and experiment. we began making the hats which was not fun, i have blisters. pulling felt over a block is actually quite difficult. patience is necessary and its takes quite a while but it looks really good once its done. depending on which you block you use, you need to make the brim and going on my design i had to make a brim, which is the same process again. i am really enjoying it but my fingers hurt! to the right is Alison's example of how to steam and pull! Wednesday all going well had to go back to the shop again and buy sinamay to decorate with, and some different ribbons for the hat in case it needed the edge. today i also created the spirals that will come off my hat and they have worked well so i am impressed tomorrow i only have to line and finish off my hat as i put it together today!

Thursday...yay i finished my hat on time, well its 3 so with time to spare my research manual is not completely finished i need to put in my images of the hat making process to show my working. Apart from that I'm really impressed with millinery and i wouldn't mind doing it again if i had finger protectors. and this is my finished hat!

week 22 feb 9th- sun 15th feb

Monday was stress full, critical studies was cancelled so at least we did not have to risk death by walking into college on sheet ice! i did manage to catch up on more work, which was good so now i only have to concentrate on my final line up and get that rendered into the photo shop with fabrics. and i have 2 days to get it sorted and all day Tuesday. well its Thursday, and yep got it all handed in, i did not have as much work as i had hoped when i had bound it all together it did not look as impressive but at least I did not stay up all night finishing it. this is my final line-up. Wednesday night was a nice sleep night and just getting ready for our work crit on our new project fashion art and culture so i had to decide what i was doing, and create a mood board and the 200 words explaining what i was doing. so we had the crit and guess what the explanation of my idea was not great so basically it sounded rubbish and they said i needed to go back and look at it again! but not tonight nerds and geeks are going out!!!!!

week 21 (monday 2nd feb-sun8th)

right so Monday back at college i had one day to produce 15 design sheets with at least 90 designs, and i did it, it took me from 5pm until 11 but i did it, and some of them are quite good i think. so i at least had something to show Ian as we had a check up tutorial type thing. so i was there on Tuesday and surprisingly i had done more than some of the people that had been there all week which was slightly worrying for them. never mind. so after that i had to sort out and go back and design my final line up, create more design sheets go fill in a little more research for the rest of my design pages. so much to do at least i had my market levels done which was important as it took quite a while to do. and here is an example of my market level research from paul smith. Friday i had to go fabric shopping with nick and Georgy and daisy as i did not have an y suitable fabric for my designs, this was a little bit if a mission at the time as i know very little about fabrics something i will have to look into. my original plan for the weekend was to go home, but i had my grandmas 80Th party and i wouldn't want to miss that so home again for the weekend as usual.

holiday soon, yay! well critical studies, we have another essay to do now, so i have collect my book and i figured i could read them on the train every week as i commute! Tuesday was interesting, we had to show our ideas sheets and to be honest mine were pretty poor, i was not quite into what we were doing yet. Wednesday we had the lesson and quite alot of people left early, didn't know if you didn't have cad then you had to stay in! i had to stay in as i had cad, because i switched the lesson so i did not miss it. I'm starting to get much better with photo shop, which is good as we will be using it alot as we go further into the course. well im off home now, as i travel to gatwick tomorrow to catch my flight on Friday to the b.v.i! and i will be back for the Monday the 2nd session. Georgy and the girls should be getting me some notes, and my booklet for fashion art and culture briefing so i will read all that when I'm back.
